2017 has presented the Northern Illinois Conference with opportunities to realign our work and staffing. Through the Landscape Assessment in 2015 we’ve learned that we need to work on reorganizing the annual conference. This work is underway. Likewise in our staffing, we live out our core values as a healthy organization when we evaluate, assess and experiment.

As this quadrennium comes to a close and a new one begins, changes, challenges, uncertainties opportunities, possibilities, and hope face the Northern Illinois Annual Conference. More than a thousand clergy and laity gathered at the 177th session from June 5-7, 2016 in St. Charles, Ill., to celebrate, worship and conduct business, each step guided by God and the scripture verse: 2 Corinthians 5: 6-7 with the theme Walk by Faith.

Helping homeless with a meal and a message

Members of the United Methodist Rural Advocates (UMRA) distribute cards made by children in churches across the connection along with meal vouchers to the Sisters of the Road Cafe, a local non-profit which is working to end poverty and homelessness by providing nourishing meals in a safe, dignified space around Portland, OR during General Conference.
