New UMVIM-NCJ Coordinator named

The North Central Jurisdiction United Methodist Volunteers in Mission board announced that Tammy Kuntz will be the new coordinator. She began part-time training in November 2016 and on January 1, 2017, will assume her role as UMVIM-NCJ coordinator, succeeding Lorna Jost who retired after 13 years of service.

Mobilizing in Ministry with the Poor

The church reaches out to the poor in many ways but some United Methodist leaders are reexamining how the church ministers with the poor, and if we can do better. Host Bishop Sally Dyck of the Northern Illinois Conference welcomed participants to a two-day meeting and prayed that their time together would help rediscover the Wesleyan foundational movement to be with the poor in the world.

New JFON clinic in Chicago

On March 9, 2013, Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON) opened its Chicago Clinic site for the first time. Six clients made appointments ahead of time to come to the clinic. As those guests arrived, they found over 20 volunteers from Humboldt Park United Methodist Church and other communities of faith surrounding them with hospitality, childcare, and assisting in providing high quality immigration legal services.
