This Life Changing Journey: With Fall Comes Renewal

As the seasons shift from summer to fall, Rev. Danita R. Anderson reminds us that this time of change is also an invitation to renew our commitment to faith and community. Just as churches once marked the season with homecomings and rally days, today we can embrace new opportunities for involvement and participation. She shares that members of the conference staff, including herself, will be present in congregations this fall—not to judge, but to worship together and celebrate a season of renewed hope.

Summer mission trips: Serving near and far

This summer, churches across Northern Illinois lived out their faith through mission trips near and far—serving neighbors in local communities, repairing homes in Appalachia, and supporting ministries in North Dakota. From building ramps and painting homes to packing meals and partnering with other congregations, volunteers of all ages shared God’s love through hands-on service. These experiences not only met practical needs but also built lasting relationships and unity in Christ.

VBS Adventures Inspire Faith and Community

This summer, churches across the conference brought vacation Bible school to life, each one putting its own unique spin on the beloved tradition. From creative scheduling and special projects to new formats and fresh themes, these diverse programs showed how innovation and faith can come together to engage kids and families in meaningful, fun ways.

Geneva UMC’s Rummage/Bake Sale Serves Creation and Community

The United Methodist Church of Geneva’s rummage sale not only raises funds but supports creation care. The church directs the proceeds to charities and finds new uses for unsold items.

Nominations open for 2025 UVC Annual Child Advocate Awards

United Voices for Children (UVC) is inviting nominations for its three annual awards. These UVC Awards honor extraordinary volunteer service or advocacy efforts on behalf of children, youth and/or families throughout the Northern Illinois Conference. All United Methodists are encouraged to recognize who is doing this good work in your church or community, then nominate a deserving individual or a group.

Fourteen Churches Unite for Pentecost worship

On Pentecost Sunday, 14 United Methodist churches from the Prairie North District gathered at Freeport’s historic Oakdale Tabernacle for a powerful worship celebration filled with music, unity, and the Holy Spirit. With clergy and laity leading together, the service lifted up The United Methodist Church’s new vision—love boldly, serve joyfully, lead courageously—and reminded all present of the Church’s enduring mission. This vibrant gathering was both a testament to connectionalism and a living witness to the Spirit moving among us today.
