A New Name, the Same Commitment to Justice: NIJFON Rebrands as Immigration Law and Justice of Northern Illinois

Immigration Law and Justice of Northern Illinois, formerly known as Northern Illinois Justice for Our Neighbors, is celebrating 15 years of providing free, high-quality immigration legal services while officially adopting a new name that reflects its vision for the future. Rooted in the United Methodist tradition of justice and hospitality, ILJNI continues its work of providing legal support, education, advocacy, and cross-cultural community-building so that immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees can live without fear.

The Joy, Justice, and Community of Worship

At the World Methodist Council conference, Aug. 13-17 in San Salvador, El Salvador, Rev. Tercio B. Junker had the privilege of serving as director of liturgy and music, helping to shape worship alongside people from different countries, cultures, languages, and Methodist traditions. He affirms that one gift of global worship is that it reminds us that no single culture owns the language of praise.

Ecumenism Metro Chicago to Mark International Day of Peace

“Blessed Are the Peacemakers,” an ecumenical prayer service, will gather Christians from different traditions in a common act of prayer on Sept. 30, in solidarity with the International Day of Peace. Ecumenism Metro Chicago, of which Northern Illinois Conference is a member, is sponsoring the event.

Jurisdictional Groups Gather to Share Creation Justice Work

About fifty people gathered July 19-21 from the United Methodist North Central Jurisdiction Creation Justice Movement and NCJ Advocacy group at Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church in Oak Park to learn about the efforts of the movement as a whole and to create a vision for the future of creation justice in the NCJ and individual conferences.

Stonger Together: Joining in Advocacy is a Sign of Hope

What made the demonstration at Annual Conference in support of immigrants especially meaningful was the participation of young people. Youth and young adults walked alongside clergy and other laity, lending their voices and their presence to this public expression of faith.
