Lay Academies provide valuable opportunities for laity to grow as leaders in their churches and communities. They are designed to equip laity for their roles in ministry as disciples of Jesus Christ, rooted in the belief that every baptized Christian is called to serve.
Courses cover a variety of topics, including worship leadership, discipleship, mission engagement, leading small groups, justice work and spiritual formation. Participants not only strengthen their own understanding and practice of ministry but also gain practical tools to support and lead others. In addition, each course earns credit toward certification in the United Methodist Church’s Lay Servant Ministries program, which affirms and equips lay leaders for ongoing service.
Academies are held in each district, a few times a year, offering convenient access for participants across the conference. Participants are welcome to take classes in any district, not just their own, giving them flexibility in scheduling and opportunities to connect with others across the conference.
Whether you are new to lay ministry or looking to expand your skills, these learning opportunities can help you discover and deepen your gifts.
