All class times must be attended to receive course credit.

Cost includes welcoming continental breakfasts on both mornings and lunch catered by Curt's Cafe in Evanston.

Each student will need to purchase their own book.

    • 9 a.m.: Class, morning sessions
    • Noon: Lunch (box lunch included in registration fee)
    • 1 p.m.: Class, afternoon sessions

Class Options: (one course per academy)

  • Basic Course This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries. Participants are encouraged to consider the importance of servant leadership, developing future leaders and remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices.

  • Justice in Everyday Life This course takes an in-depth look at the Social Principles of The United Methodist Church — the church's attempt to speak on contemporary issues with which it is confronted today.

  • Transforming Evangelism This course leads participants to learn from John Wesley how to practice relational evangelism. They will discover that evangelism involves not only sharing our faith with others but also welcoming people into a community where they can grow in faith.

  • Lay Pastoral Care Giving This course offers insights into the life span and the dynamics of contemporary life to help church leaders reach out with God’s love and care to others.

  • Accountable Discipleship This class will help us remember and learn about John and Charles Wesley's vision for Christian community, through lay leadership in ministry, small groups, and mutual accountability. Faith was increased, hope confirmed, and persons "perfected" in love by the system of small groups led by lay people in Methodist societies.
