In Sympathy: Charlotte (Char) Hoffman
Rev. Charlotte (Char) Hoffman, a retired member of the Northern Illinois Conference, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2025.
In 1965, Jimmie became the first Black football star at an affluent Charlotte high school, thrust into one of North Carolina’s most volatile civil rights cases. De witnessed the events and wrote about them in a college essay. Decades later, a discovery in church records uncovers buried secrets, linking their lives to America’s broader story of slavery’s legacy, racial division, and the search for healing—their shared “binding truth.”
If anyone is interested in screening A Binding Truth for their group, faith community, or organization for a reasonable fee, please contact the director/producer, Louise Woehrle of Whirlygig Productions
