Siblings in Christ, greetings on behalf of the laity of the Northern Illinois Conference. As we celebrate the many blessings and the unmerited grace, mercy, and favor that we continue to receive, let us move forward in 2026 by practicing a year of hope.
Though we may witness disappointments, abuse, and cruelty again and again in a community near us, we must be resolute in our hope and faith. We must continue to hope and do so fully. Not hopefully, hope-fully! Now is not the time for part-time or sometime hope. We must do so full-time by endeavoring to hope fully.
When we hope fully, we will not allow doubt, worry, or concern overshadow the blessings that our Lord and Savior promised us. As we celebrate this season of Lent, let us hope fully on the mighty works of Christ at Calvary and in the resurrection. Hope fully upon the promise in Hebrews 13:5, where we are assured that God’s presence, love, and support will always be with us. He promised never to leave or forsake us. We serve a mighty God who has proven his faithfulness time and again. Let us likewise have the courage and faith to hope fully on his word.
You are invited to join us for our Laity Convocation for a meaningful morning of learning, connection, and encouragement. The speakers include Bishop Dan Schwerin; Rev. Hope Chernich, NIC Rapid Response team member; and multiple young people from across the conference. See more information here. Journey with us to move forward with hope, practicing a year of hope as we love boldly, serve joyfully, lead courageously—and hope fully. Have a blessed lenten season. Go with God and be well.
