Churches and charges may now apply to the conference Equitable Compensation Committee for funds to supplement their clergy leaders' base compensation. Applications are due Nov. 15.

The Book of Discipline requires every annual conference to have a commission on equitable compensation. Northern Illinois's committee allows churches, with clergy assistance, to apply for funds to supplement base compensation.

Among the stated purposes and responsibilities of the committee (Discipline ¶624.1-2):

  • support full-time clergy serving as pastors in the charges of the annual conference
  • recommend conference standards for pastoral support
  • administer funds to be used as base compensation supplementation

Northern Illinois's committee has established the following process for disbursing funds:

  • distribute funds twice per year to churches in need to fulfill the mission of compensating full-time clergy equitably
  • receive applications in November and in the spring

The application is simple and can be found here. The church/charge applies for the money, the clergy can complete the application, and the money is sent to the church or charge. The grant is given to the church or charge.

Please read the instructions in full. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rev. Cheryl Weaver, conference benefits officer, by email or phone:  608-478-4609.
