On Golden Cross Sunday, The United Methodist Church recognizes its commitment to health, wellness, and compassionate care. It supports ministries that serve the health-related needs of vulnerable individuals, especially older adults and those facing medical hardship.
Healing is a core part of Jesus’ ministry, and Golden Cross Sunday reminds us that caring for physical well-being is part of our spiritual calling. It helps churches respond to real human needs with love, dignity, and support.
Special Sundays give us a chance to focus our prayers and support on important ministries all year long—uniting our gifts to multiply our impact. For many facing illness, emotional struggle, or financial hardship, Golden Cross ministries provide more than services; they offer encouragement, dignity, and renewed strength. From hospital chaplains and counseling to support groups and programs helping seniors stay independent, these ministries make a real difference in people’s lives. Donations support NIC ministries with older adults and help provide scholarships for individuals serving in partner caregiving agencies and support training and educational opportunities for caregivers and those involved in older adult ministry.
You can take part by supporting your church’s health ministries, visiting the sick, raising awareness about health care access, or giving to support those who cannot afford medical care.
Give through your church and note "Golden Cross Sunday" on your check memo line or offering envelope. Churches forward donations through the annual conference apportionment payment process.
