The Northern Illinois Annual Conference Committee on Discipleship and Spiritual Formation (CDSF) is inviting individuals and congregations across the conference to make daily Scripture reading a shared spiritual practice in 2026.
To support this effort, the CDSF will provide a yearlong reading guide that takes participants through the entire Bible using a chronological plan—following the order in which biblical events are believed to have occurred. For example, readers will move from Genesis to Job and then return to Genesis as the story unfolds. The full reading calendar is be available online here.
To encourage participants along the way, the CDSF will also host a monthly online support group. Unlike a Bible study, these sessions are designed to offer encouragement, accountability, and space for reflection on how the practice of daily reading is shaping faith and life. Facilitators will guide conversations about insights gained, challenges encountered, and the spiritual impact of engaging Scripture regularly. These conference-wide gatherings will meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Zoom, and recordings will be available for those who cannot attend live.
An online orientation session is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., where participants can learn more about the reading plan and support opportunities. Registration is available here.
Pastoral leaders are especially encouraged to consider joining the effort themselves, inviting their congregations to participate, and—if possible—hosting local in-person, online, or hybrid support groups. Congregations that choose to offer a group and are open to welcoming participants from other churches are invited to share their meeting details with the CDSF.
"Our goal is to offer a simple plan and supportive environment to help people engage the whole of Scripture over one year," said Rev. Seamus Enright, CDSF Committee Chair. "We are trusting God to deepen our faith as we do this together.”
