This summer, our Spanish as a Second Language class will invite all ages to participate in a one-day intergenerational experience we are calling Spanish Camp. It brings together those who have little or no prior experience of the Spanish language and Spanish speaking congregations as they together celebrate and learn. The day will be held on June 28 at Barrington First United Methodist Church (98 Algonquin Road, Barrington, IL) from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
This one-day experience is a slightly abbreviated version of the six-week course that is used in local congregations and features active learning through music, culture, drama, and worship. Persons of all ages are invited to journey together through this learning experience.
Spanish as a Second Language is a challenge from Bishop Sally Dyck that invites 100 congregations to engage in a process of learning the language and culture of their neighbors who speak Spanish. It encourages us to learn together as we answer the Annual Conference theme of “Who is my neighbor?”
Nursery care is offered for those under 6 years of age. The cost of the event is $8 per person with a maximum of $20 per family. This includes lunch and a snack for every participant. To register on-line visit our Eventbrite page at www.tinyurl.com/ssldia. Although it indicates that the event is “free,” the cost of the event is still $8 per person and $20 per family.
