UNITED METHODIST POLITY + *
Theology shapes who we are and how we organize to transform the world. This advanced course uses a
Wesleyan theological frame—connection—to help students understand United Methodism's polity and
organization as the interrelationship of our beliefs, mission, and practice. Functional in nature, these aspects of
the denomination facilitate our mission to make disciples for the transformation of the world. YOU WILL NEED
A 2016 BOOK OF DISCIPLINE FOR THIS CLASS. Borrow one from your church or purchase from Cokesbury.

AGING AND MINISTRY IN THE 21ST CENTURY
This advanced course for Lay Servant Ministries is a practical guide for building ministry for older adults and
tapping into their wisdom, energy, experience, and talents, as well as recognizing the various stages of
retirement and activity. Discussion pays special attention to the needs of the Boomer generation, who are now
becoming the older adults who will determine the church’s path for years to come.

LAY SERVANTS LEAD IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Every church deals with conflict, both healthy and unhealthy, and lay servants can be equipped and
empowered to help lead through those times of conflict as a time of transformation. In this advanced course,
learn how to encounter conflict as a positive force and spiritual pursuit that is grounded in biblical principles,
love of God, neighbor, and self. Prepare steps for the work of engaging conflict, and consider how to engage
others in conflict transformation, outlining specific processes.
