Volunteers in Mission

NIC Disaster Response Team

We often believe disasters are something we respond to in other areas of our country or the world. But Northern Illinois has also experienced disasters such as tornadoes and flooding, fires and ice storms which have brought upset and destruction here at home. The earthquake in Haiti seemed far from our doorstep until our own earth shook with a minor quake. Being prepared is not just about going elsewhere; it's about being safe and ready to respond where we live.
 
NIC is in the beginning stages of putting together a disaster response plan for northern Illinois. With Rev. Christina L. Vosteen of UMC Plano as conference coordinator, a team of coordinators from each district has been assembled to develop and implement a process for disaster response. The cluster model will serve as the basis for education and training, risk assessment and local response. Working closely with UMVIM, the goal is to serve our conference needs as well as making our broader response more efficient and effective.

We are also affiliated with the North Central Jurisdiction Volunteers in Mission.
