Haiti Health Kit Dropoff
01/14/2010UPDATE Jan. 15, 2:37 p.m.:
By Rev. Christina Vosteen - pastorcls@aol.com
Our distribution center in Chatham, IL is requesting that churches collect items for Haiti health kits IN BULK. Please do not assemble individual kits, as it will delay the delivery of the materials to UMCOR staff in Haiti. Since staff at the center must inspect each kit for accuracy before shipping, it is much faster for them to assemble the kits themselves.
Ideally, collect donations which, when assembled, will make complete kits. AND I wouldn't refuse any donations that can be used in the health kits! The extra nail clippers you send can be combined with another church's extra towels... and kits will be made.
To arrange delivery, please call the center at 217-483-7911.
ITEMS TO COLLECT:
- One-gallon sealed plastic bags
- Hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels)
- Washcloths
- Combs (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
- Nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
- Bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
- Toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
- Adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
- Toothpaste
The following churches (listed by District) have offered to collect health kits to be delivered to UMCOR staff in Haiti, via the Midwestern Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, IL. To volunteer your church as a drop-off site or to volunteer to transport health kits, please contact Rev. Christina Vosteen at pastorcls@aol.com
