Dekalb District

The DeKalb District is basically town and country in character, but with some exceptions.  The city of DeKalb boasts the home of Northern Illinois University which definitely dominates the community.  The surrounding countryside boasts some of the best agricultural land in the United States, mainly corn and soybean producing land.

The DeKalb District consists of 71 local churches on 60 pastoral charges served by 63 pastors under appointment. 14 pastoral charges include 2 churches served by the same pastor. Clergy and laity count the strength of persons and churches on the district to be a great asset. Strong personalities emerge on a local and district level, providing leadership and vision.  There is varied spiritual strength on the district.  This strength manifests itself in churches which are vibrant and alive and committed to Jesus Christ.

Welcome!

Meet the new Dekalb District Superintendent

Rev. Richard Wisdom became a probationary member of the Dick Wisdomconference in 2000 and has served in both rural and urban settings, in small and large churches.  Rev. Wisdom comes to United Methodism from a Roman Catholic background having grown up in Aurora, Illinois the eldest of 11 children.  A second career pastor, Dick brings extensive business experience to his ministry.  During his ministry at Rockford: Christ, Dick moved the church through several expansion efforts including a merger with Our Masters UMC.

The congregation currently worships over 700 and is one of the largest worshiping communities in the Northern Illinois Conference.  Bishop Jung introduced Rev. Wisdom as “an innovative thinker who brings vision and courage to the development of the church.  Dick’s business experience and deep faith will continue to carry the DeKalb District into a healthy future.”

Rev. Wisdom says, “I’m very enthused to be in ministry with the clergy and laity of the DeKalb District especially in this time of swiftly changing culture around us.”  Dick and his wife Cheryl recently celebrated 25 years of marriage, are the parents to four grown children and the proud grandparents of 3 fantastic grandchildren.
