Chicago Southern District

Welcome to the Chicago Southern District
of the Northern Illinois Conference!

I greet you on behalf of the 60 local churches, two campus ministries, one social agency and the many other exciting ministries that exist on the District. The district is made up of a diverse people representing both urban and suburban communities. It is framed by Interstate 290, some parts of Interstate 294, Lake Michigan and just beyond Interstate 80.

Each of our faith communities are involved in a variety of missions and outreach ministries. Both the clergy and laity are working faithfully to carry out the Great Commission of Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World. (Matthew 28:16-20)

If you are seeking a place to worship, to grow in your faith, to engage in mission and outreach and to build lasting relationships, then you are invited to join a United Methodist congregation nearest you. Within these local faith communities, you will find a warm, welcoming people who are filled with the love of Christ!

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Dr. Tracy S. Malone

Meet the SuperintendeTracy Smith Malonent

Dr. Tracy S. Malone is an ordained Elder and has served in both associate, solo pastor and senior pastor positions.  Tracy is a lifelong United Methodist growing up in the Northern Illinois Conference.  Tracy’s experience in the church spans conference, Jurisdictional and General Church roles.

In naming Tracy to the Cabinet, Bishop Jung identified her “excellent leadership skills, proven track record in the parish, broader understanding of the global church and rich heritage as a United Methodist” among the gifts Tracy brings to her role.  Tracy is married to Derrick, a State Farm Agent.  They are the proud parents of two daughters, Alexis and Ashley.

The mission of the Chicago Southern District
of the Northern Illinois Conference
is to ENCOURAGE, EQUIP, CONNECT, and SUPPORT
our local churches in their call to
Make Disciples of Jesus Christ
for the Transformation of the World.

        CHICAGO LAWN/ROCA FUERTE

The Chicago Lawn area is ready for the Hispanic Ministry. Since 2008, the congregation has grown from an attendance of 20 to an average of 40, and has had services with up to 60 people.
Most of the families are couples with small children, so there is great need for children's ministry, but since most of the people are new in the faith, and also new to the United Methodist Church, they're working on preparing teachers and leaders through teaching about Christian beliefs and discipleship.
A challenge for the congregation is deterioration and unsafe conditions in the building, although the people work hard to keep the building as nice as possible with limited resources.
There is a prayer meeting every Saturday at 5:00 p.m., and worship on Sunday in English at 11:00 a.m. and in Spanish at 1:00 p.m.  Once a month both congregations participate in a bilingual service.
